SUBLIMATION BY DAVID MEYER STARTING MONDAY MARCH 8TH
Saturday, March 6th, 2010The large-scale installation Sublimation will be created on site by sifting 1500 pounds of white flour into small conic piles on the floor of the Skybox gallery. Each pile represents a halftone value from a photographic image taken from a past event and vary in size and height based on the tonality of the source image. Darker tones from the image translate into larger piles and visa versa to create a topographical view from the ground perspective.
From the second floor balcony of the space the full view of imagery is faintly recognizable, but distorted through other processes such as segmentation and duplication. The installation Sublimation is a combination of processes and material history that plays off the elements of perception and questions the idea of conclusions. Because of the undefined nature of the work the subject is allowed to shifts from one thought to another and only becomes real when we believe it.
