Art Is Ageless 2010

Exhibition features work produced during the 2009 NewCourtland Artist Fellowships alongside the artwork of each Artist Fellow

A wide variety of artwork produced by seniors, youth and professional artists from the region will be showcased at the 2nd Annual “Art is Ageless” exhibit May 13-26, 2010. The free exhibit premieres with a reception and unveils the artwork produced during the 2009 NewCourtland Artist Fellowship. The Artist Fellows selected for the 2010 program will be announced at the Art is Ageless opening reception on Thursday May 13. The NewCourtland Artist Fellowship is an annual arts program launched in 2008 that attracts some of the region’s top artists. Those Artist Fellows selected for the program facilitate an intergenerational art project that bridges area youth and seniors served by the NewCourtland Network.

The NewCourtland Artist Fellowship is a premier program of Comfort & Joy™, an intergenerational arts and cultural initiative that serves as the “art & soul” of NewCourtland preventing social isolation amongst the seniors it serves while celebrating the talents and experiences of all generations. NewCourtland serves as a leading non-profit provider of community services, affordable senior housing, nursing homes and innovative programming that support new models of care by combining highly trained, compassionate and friendly staff, with easy-to-use assistive technology and supportive services to meet the needs of the nation’s growing aging population. University of the Arts Senior Photography Exhibition

Senior photography students at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA are hosting their annual senior show at the Skybox at 2424 Studios located at 2424 East York Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19125.  Thirty-eight senior photography students will be showcased in the event, and will be displaying work within various disciplines, including alternative process and mixed media, fashion and editorial, portraiture, landscape and documentary work.  Open to the public, the opening reception will be held on Friday, April 2, 2010, from 6–10pm at the Skybox.  Following the open reception, the gallery will also be open from Tuesday – Saturday, 12pm – 6pm from April 4 – 13, 2010. When the show at Skybox comes to a close, the University of the Arts senior photography class will be featured in a second show, this time at Dorrance Hamilton Hall at 320 S. Broad St., Philadelphia. Open to the public, the opening reception will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010, from 6–8pm.  The gallery will also be open from Monday – Saturday, 12pm – 6pm from May 8 – 15, 2010.

Laser Tag at the Skybox Friday March 5th at 4:30PM-8:30PM

laser_tagAlways the life of a party, GO FESTIVE! is proud to introduce its new party phenomenon: BATTLE BLAST Mobile Laser Tag. This one-of-a-kind service allows players to run, jump, and crawl their way to victory almost anywhere! Corporate employees and managers can learn great teamwork skills playing laser tag in, on, and around their cubicles, while groups of rowdy teenagers can enjoy hours of screaming fun in their neighborhood park around GO FESTIVE’s inflatable obstacles.  BATTLE BLAST is unique, safe, and fun for ages 7 and up.

On Friday, March 5 from 4:30PM – 8:30 PM, GO FESTIVE! will be hosting its BATTLE BLAST Launch Party in the Skybox at 2424 Studios in Philadelphia.  Everyone attending will be entered to win a free laser tag game for their own BATTLE BLAST party, along with other special prizes. In true party spirit, GO FESTIVE! will also be showing off other services, allowing guests to play video games on their jumbo inflatable screen or hop in the photobooth, all night long.

GO FESTIVE! has been operating in the Greater Philadelphia area since 2007 and specializes in making parties exciting and memorable for all guests. They bring photobooths, flipbook stations, huge inflatable screens, and mobile laser tag to weddings, birthday parties, dances, and more. Not only do their services act as great interactive party activities, but the photo strips and flipbooks also serve as unique and personalized party favors.  Furthermore, they take great pride in helping schools and non-profits fundraise for their own organizations.

The Philadelphia Independent Craft Market’s 2nd Annual Pabst Blue Ribbon Crafting Challenge

Saturday~ February 27th 3pm-10pm @ The 2424 Studios Skybox 2424 York Street, Fishtown

We want to celebrate with Philadelphia our love of the ‘Great American Accessory’ known simply as a PBR! There will be 20+ independent artists with an array of handmade and vintage PBR goods competing for prizes over the best displayed tables. You don’t want to miss your chance to see this and bring home your own handmade PBR treasure! There will also be a chance for everyone to win a prize with fun PBR games and raffles. Last years show was a huge success, and this year is going to be bigger and better~ more art, more vendors, and more space! There is an $8 suggested donation to enter and it includes plenty ‘o PBR sponsored free refreshments. We got your cure for cabin fever!!

The fun continues with live music throughout the day~ we have 5 amazing bands performing.

First Friday At 2424: The Titan & The Fireflies!

Just a quick reminder: The Skybox at 2424 Studios will be open tomorrow, Friday Nov. 6th, from 6-9:30PM, where Jason Hackenwerth’s installation, The Titan & The Fireflies, will be on display.
