Exhibition features work produced during the 2009 NewCourtland Artist Fellowships alongside the artwork of each Artist Fellow

A wide variety of artwork produced by seniors, youth and professional artists from the region will be showcased at the 2^nd Annual “Art is Ageless” exhibit May 13-26, 2010. The free exhibit premieres with a reception and unveils the artwork produced during the 2009 NewCourtland Artist Fellowship. The Artist Fellows selected for the 2010 program will be announced at the Art is Ageless opening reception on Thursday May 13. The NewCourtland Artist Fellowship is an annual arts program launched in 2008 that attracts some of the region’s top artists. Those Artist Fellows selected for the program facilitate an intergenerational art project that bridges area youth and seniors served by the NewCourtland Network.

The NewCourtland Artist Fellowship is a premier program of Comfort & Joy™, an intergenerational arts and cultural initiative that serves as the “art & soul” of NewCourtland preventing social isolation amongst the seniors it serves while celebrating the talents and experiences of all generations. Born in the capital city of Giorgia,Tbilisi,MananaTsilikishvili grew up in the satellite state of the USSR. Georgia under communist control often made daily life a challenge. The art word,under constraint,leaned toward traditional expression and new ideas were not encouraged.

As a young girl,Manana was fortunate to have an art teacher in school who progressive in the thinking. Recognizing her talent,he encouraged her to expressherself in line,form and color.

In order to sustain herself,Manana enrolled in light industry technical college and received a degree in textile manufacturing. With this backgroung she owned and operated a successful boutique due to her exceptional ability to use color and form in design.

Yet the boutique was not enough to quell her intense desire to paint. Manana yearned to experience the artistic freedom she thought America could possibly offer.

In 1999 she came to America and was tremendously inspired by broad range that art enjoyed in this country.

Surrounded by a free artistic environment and the availability of new material, Manana perfected her techniques and developed an individualistic, contemporary style. Her work now inspired by this freedom is possessed by a spirit which lives in wonderful word of lines, forms, colors and symbolism. Free from he nightmare of materialism and constraints, Manana’s work brings forth refreshing and spiritual awakening in the viewer. Working in acrylic and oils, the dramatic inner intensions of her feeling and beautiful spirit are discovered on canvas, refreshing, uplifting and stimulating the viewer.
